SHINE BRIGHT / Bold colorful outfit inspired by Prabal Gurung for Target

To me, Target's designer collaborations are more than just designers creating affordable pieces for the mass market; they are events where specific items become the tickets that you end up keeping afterwards because you want a souvenir.  Target does a great job turning each collaboration into a spectacle (genius marketing!) and creating a frenzy for that one piece you just have to have.  The best part?  There is enough variability that the one special ticket is different for everyone.

The special collaborator this time is Prabal Gurung and his beautifully designed pieces for Target don't stray far from the designs in his own collection.  I have a lot of respect for designers who keep things consistent regardless of where they sell their designs, kudos Mr. Gurung!  For this collection with Target,I was really into the shoes as well as the tops in the First Date print.  Before going on, here's some ticket items from previous designer collaborations: Jason Wu for Target and McQ Alexander McQueen for Target

The colorful, eye-catching print on this blouse inspired me to create an outfit composed with a handful of the print's vivid colors and pulled together by black.  Blue and purple and blue and green are the two combinations that stick out the most from this outfit and they work because they are analogous color schemes.

When I first put together this outfit, I was leaning towards wearing the sulphur yellow/neon green ankle-strapped heels from this collection but realized that it would create a really busy outfit that would draw the eyes everywhere.  Therefore to keep the focus on one thing at a time, I used black to pull the outfit together.  The black jacket, when worn, would draw attention to the blue and purple between the accessories and the skirt.  When weather permits (in a few weeks hopefully!), the jacket off allows the top to become the statement piece.

Prabal Gurung for Target lace-up heels (similar here and Ferragamo version 50% off) / Talbots necklace

For anyone interested in any of the Prabal for Target items and is curious about sizing, here's my thoughts for the items I got: the two first date sleeveless blouses are TTS, the lace-up heels (in this outfit) as well as the wedge ankle straps are TTS, but for most of the other shoes (the pumps and the ankle strap heels) I went down .5 size.

I hope everyone is having a great weekend and if you are one of the lucky ones who has tomorrow off, please enjoy it for the both of us!  Dejavu to a similar wishing last month, lol.  Take care all!

  1. I think I'm a bad fashion blogger because I either didn't know or didn't care to know much about this new Target designer collab. I have to say, I love the bright, bold colors that this Prabal Gurung collection has, but I am not motivated to go own them myself.

YOUR outfit is great. I love the shoes (they're rad), and you balanced the colors perfectly.

  2. You look great! Thank you for posting pictures, I was so ready to pounce when the collection launched, and I'm glad I did!
