JOYOUS GREYS / Formal maxi dress with tiered layers and floral blockings

holiday wedding prom dress idea

Over the weekend I had the greatest pleasure accompanying my dear friend to his sister's wedding where I got to witness the marriage of two incredibly loving people and afterwards celebrate with their friends and family at the elegant and classic Kohl Mansion.  It was such a beautiful event and I am ever so thankful to my friend and the newlywed for having me there.  In addition to being amongst so much love (evident through the high spirits of all those who attended and the touching and warm speeches given by those close to the couple), it was also a good opportunity to get to know some inspiring people and make some new friends.  CONGRATULATIONS SHAHNAZ & CHIRAG!!!!

I have a secret to let you in on.  If you look closely at the above picture you may see some shoddy stitching and little glimmers of silver.  That is my doing and the little glimmers are staples.  Yes, staples.  I didn't get a chance to get the dress professionally hemmed before the event so I had to do some quick thinking and come up with a remedy that would take me less than 30 minutes.  Staples and big stitches it is!  Now instead of worrying about tripping over my dress, I had to worry about stepping into the big gaping holes from the stitches and getting my heel caught, lol.  Fortunately that didn't happen.

I hope you had a wonderful weekend and will have a great week!  Two weeks until Shane and I are off to Rome to enjoy our own Roman Holiday, I can't wait!!!!  If there's any recommendations on things to do, sights to see, and delicious restaurants to try, please send them my way, we would be forever grateful =D

  1. I love how airy and breezy yet still season appropriate this dress is! The wedding, also, must've been beautiful!

I'm so excited for your Roman holiday! One of our favorite restaurants (that we ate at twice!) http://www.yelp.com/biz/da-francesco-roma I'm a tad puzzled as to the lukewarm reviews, but we had great service and excellent pasta and pizza here. The octopus appetizer is a must. Good food was seemingly hard to come by in Rome, but Da Francesco deserved our return visit. There is a wine bar by the plaza and the whole area is happening with the locals. Avoid That's Amore.

    1. J, thank you so, so much for sharing your recommendation on the one to-eat and one not-to-eat, I am adding Da Francesco to our list and it will be one of the first restaurants we eat at. I am drooling thinking about the octopus appetizer! I've been secretly clicking back at your honeymoon pictures for the past couple days and getting real excited to see all the sights in person. You and hubby have been our virtual tour guide, we've learned so much history through your captions =D Thank you again!

  2. You will absolutely adore Rome! It goes without saying that you should make time to visit the Vatican (breathtaking!) and the Colosseum... We went to the Roman Forum after the Colosseum and wandered round the ruins of Ancient Rome. A little tip: We couldn't find any tour guides for this so downloaded an app with an audio tour to listen to - the info from the tour really helped us get a feel for the place .
In terms of places to eat, we found a beautiful little restaurant/jazz bar called Enoteca Barberini (http://www.tripadvisor.co.uk/Restaurant_Review-g187791-d2326861-Reviews-Enoteca_Barberini-Rome_Lazio.html) - gorgeous food, very relaxed and full of locals.
    Have a fabulous time!

    1. Aimee, thank you so much for taking the time to share your tips and restaurant recommendation for Enoteca Barberini! Shane is Catholic and the Vatican was the first place he brought up to visit, we have two days set for it (one for the General Audience Papal on Wednesday) and I can't wait to explore the world's smallest country in addition to the Eternal City. I am going to look for the app with the audio tour tonight, do you happen to remember what the app was called? I plan on downloading a lot of guides before our trip so I am definitely adding your's to the list.

Thank you again so much for sharing!
